SEND and Inclusive Sessions

At Urban Forest Tribe, we create welcoming and inclusive opportunities for children, young people and families to connect with nature. Our SEND sessions support children with additional needs to explore, play, create and enjoy the outdoors in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful for them. Sessions can include sensory nature exploration, natural crafting, bushcraft activities and guided tool use. We take time to understand each child’s interests and needs, creating supportive experiences where they can explore at their own pace and build confidence.


Working with Schools
We also work alongside schools to support children with additional needs through nature connection and outdoor learning. Our SEND support and consultancy can help schools explore ways to bring nature into their existing approaches and create more opportunities for children to connect with the outdoors.
We are currently working with The Bridge Primary and The Bridge Secondary in Islington to create a new on-site nature area for the long-term enjoyment of the school community. Our team of volunteers, alongside partners including Murphy Construction, Arsenal in the Community and Axis, are supporting the development of this space.

Our 16-Week SENDay Family Project
Our SEND-specific 16-week project has now come to an end.
We are incredibly grateful to all the families who joined us and shared the experience with us. We hope to secure further funding so that we can continue offering similar opportunities in the future.

Home Ed/Flexi schooling SEND Sessions
Our home education sessions are currently paused while we seek further funding.
Our aim is to reintroduce these free nature-based sessions in the future, creating more opportunities for children and families to learn, explore and connect with nature together.

Parent/carer in the SEND community

I am writing to share the profound impact that the forest school has had on my disabled children, both of whom have faced significant challenges in conventional educational settings. For two years, our local authority was unable to secure appropriate provision for them, leaving us in a state of limbo. However, since enrolling in forest school, the changes in my children have been nothing short of miraculous. For the first time, they have made friends and feel part of a community. This experience has provided them with a sense of regularity and structure, something we desperately wished for in other provisions. The only thing we yearn for now is the opportunity for them to attend more days. My children have flourished in ways I could not have imagined. One of my children, previously pre-verbal, has begun speaking and can now express his needs clearly – a milestone that had remained elusive even with the support of speech and language therapists. This breakthrough speaks volumes about the nurturing and effective environment provided by the forest school. Every week, they learn new skills, building their confidence and abilities in a natural, supportive setting. This school has done what six previous schools couldn’t – it has allowed my children to thrive. Words cannot fully capture our gratitude and the sense of fortune we feel for having discovered this incredible educational approach. Thank you for your support of this life-changing program. It has made a world of difference to my family.
